Productivity Places Program (PPP)
The federally funded Productivity Places Program (PPP) offers the opportunity for organisations and individuals to participate in training at a time when the Resources and Infrastructure sectors need it most. The changing world economic climate has lead to many enterprises reviewing their existing workforce. The PPP funding for existing workers will help to ensure both the industries long-term viability and increase the productivity and job security of the workforce.
This is a crucial time for the Resources and Infrastructure sectors as current economic conditions are emphasising the importance of getting the most out of the existing workforce. What the PPP offers our industry is an opportunity to provide the existing workforce with a nationally recognised credential, while at the same time increasing the productivity levels.
Following on from a submission to the Federal Government, SkillsDMC will trial its model for enterprise demand driven training. This model is unique, as the government is directing the funding through SkillsDMC to support enterprises, according to the demands highlighted through using the SkillsDMC model for workforce planning and development.

The PPP trial of the SkillsDMC model provides 50% of the cost of training for qualifications at AQF level 3 and above. Funding has been capped at $5,000 for AQF III & IV and at $10,000 for Diploma and Advanced Diploma levels. There are a limited number of places in each State, which will be allocated according to the outcome of a Training Needs Analysis (TNA). A member of the SkillsDMC team will conduct a TNA, at no cost to the organisation, upon request.
Under the trial arrangements, SkillsDMC will be responsible for engaging with industry in several areas:
- Working with the organisation on workforce planning
- Undertaking a TNA
- Determining the number of training places to be allocated for the trial
- Developing competency profiles and customising units of competency
- Identifying suitable training providers (Registered Training Organisation/s)
- Evaluating the program
SkillsDMC is well placed to assist organisations and individuals to identify training places under the Program using the trial model. However, the organisation will have the final say in the level and mix of training places. The training programs will be structured and delivered in alignment with the organisation’s production and/or business needs.
