WELL Broker Update
SkillsDMC is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Natt as the new English Language Literacy Broker (WELL) Broker. Chris commenced the role in October 2009, and will service the Northern Region of Australia to place local Indigenous people seeking employment in the Resources and Infrastructure industry. The position is managed by Marcia Kelly of SkillsDMC and covers Northern Western Australia, Northern Territory and northern Queensland areas. However, the initial concentration of effort has been in the Northern Territory.
The project is on track to meet the target of 100 participants across multiple organisations to participate in LLN training, primarily focusing on the resources and related industries. There has been a great deal of interest, with 5 mine sites currently developing programs. It is anticipated that the project will easily reach its target, with most applications expected to be lodged by the end of January 2010 for DEEWR approval.
Roles and responsibilities of the WELL Broker include:
- liaising with SkillsDMC, DEEWR, industry, RTO’s, and other organisations and key stakeholders to promote WELL programs
- assisting organisations with developing effective WELL applications
- connecting employers with RTO’s and other relevant bodies
- assisting with the linking of WELL programs with industry objectives, training needs and workforce development
- assisting DEEWR to achieve the 1500 placements target for the year
Primary focus of the WELL Broker includes:
- Employees working in the resources sector and other associated industry areas
- Indigenous and non indigenous
- Entry to management level language, literacy and numeracy workplace issues
- Industry specific language, literacy and numeracy workplace needs and issues
- WELL for career progression
- Other cross sector areas as identified
- 25+ age group
