Budget 2010 - 2011
The recently released Federal Budget 2010 – 2011, as it relates to the development of skills for our industry sectors is very positive, with a total of eleven initiatives costing over $661 million covering a range of issues. The emphasis of the initiatives promotes the upskilling and higher quality levels for existing workers and the delivery system. This emphasis also relates to Indigenous workers and continuing support for language, literacy and numeracy needed to gain the higher level skills and qualifications relevant to our industry sectors.
Approximately one third of the funds from the initiatives will build on the success of the SkillsDMC approach to the Productivity Places Program (PPP) (click here to view the SkillsDMC approach)
The Skills for Sustainable Growth, while different from the above mentioned PPP, will include some of the features initiated by SkillsDMC in its model to allocate 191 places in the DEEWR funded trial and extended to over 1,500 in the recently funded Enterprise Based (EBPPP) initiative.
A selection of the list of funded initiatives includes:
- Critical skills investment fund ($200.2 M)
- Apprenticeship Kickstart extension ($79.4 M)
- Smarter apprenticeships ($19.9 M)
- Improving and strengthening LL&N program ($67.0 M)
- Expanded WELL program ($28.7 M)
- National Foundation Skills Outreach and Leadership project ($23.5 M)
