Welcome to the SkillsDMC website. Following on from the past 18 months or so we are now able to look forward to the future with a great deal of confidence, we now have entered into a period in which this organisation is better resourced and guaranteed tenure. We have also been handed the task to allocate a proportion of the 450, 000 new training places announced by the Rudd administration as part of its multifaceted vocational education and training policy.
As the commodity boom continues and the investment in infrastructure projects grows into over 100 billion dollars, the drilling and quarrying sectors are also experiencing record business activity and returns on investment.
Consultation processes, research and development projects initiated by SkillsDMC and supported by the various industry sectors have culminated into products and services which will allow enterprises to gain the economic benefits related to the new training places.
There is no doubt about the fact that we need better and more accurate labour force data. Our industries are too important to the future of the Australian economy and its workforce. We need good quality, real time data based on future demand to ensure our sectors have a well trained workforce to satisfy the demand.
SkillsDMC has developed a workforce planning tool Future Workforce Manager which is available free to those organisations wishing to know more about their future workforce. Having identified the size and job profiles of the workforce an organisation now has the opportunity to identify its skills/performance needs with our IT based training need analysis tool, called Skills Maximiser™.
These two products are part of our overall systems approach to implement training and are unique to SkillsDMC. I commend you to get in touch with the staff at SkillsDMC at your earliest convenience and get more information. The availability of skilled personnel and the capacity and capability of organisation to help themselves will continue to be a concern as we enjoy the present economic good times.
Our goal at SkillsDMC is to provide leadership in areas in which we excel and work with industry stakeholders to play our part to ensure skilled personnel are available to industry with the right skills, at the right level, in the right place and at the right time.
We are entering a new era of performance related education and training. SkillsDMC has developed a systems approach to implement competency based training. The Federal Government has provided more support to industry to satisfy its future skills needs. We at SkillsDMC, along with our industry and VET stakeholders are well placed and primed to meet the challenges of the future.
May I also take this opportunity to thank all of those industry subject matter experts who provide valuable inputs to all our projects. I would also like to extend my thanks to the Board of Directors, Alternates and Association Officers for their ongoing support over the past number of years.
