The National Workforce Development Fund

The Federal Government will shortly announce $20.5 million dollars funding for Mining, Civil Construction, Quarry and Drilling sectors under the National Workforce Development Fund (NWDF). Access to the fund is via application through SkillsDMC, the National Skills Council for these sectors.

The NWDF can provide between 34% and 66% of the cost of delivering nationally accredited qualifications and skills sets.
On-site, workplace training funding has already been allocated under the first round which was approved by the Minister, the Hon. Senator Evans prior to Christmas.

Of the monies previously available only $4.5million was taken up by mining companies and $7.7 million by the Civil Construction sector resulting in training funds being significantly under-subscribed.

Quarry and Drilling sectors showed only passing interest in receiving funding support which is expected to change for this new round.
The new round will cover qualifications ranging from Certificate 3 through to Advanced Diploma in a complete range of operational and professional streams. Certificate 2 qualifications can be approved for funding if targeted at new workers.

Particular funding is also available upon application for projects targeting women in non-traditional occupations, indigenous engagement and mature age mentoring.
