Increasing Trainers in the Resources Industry through PPP
10 resources industry employees from across Northern Territory have commenced a TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and assessment, which is a Department of Education and Training Productivity Places Program initiative.
Five companies from Darwin and surrounds are involved in the project which commenced in the first week of December this year. Aurecon were engaged as the registered training organisation, who worked closely with DET, SkillsDMC and mining, civil and resources companies bring the project together.
Initial discussions with participants, managers and trainers indicated the group are progressing well, even though the training and assessment environment is very different from their everyday work and speaking and demonstration in front of a group has been challenging.
The project has had strong support from industry, which has identified the benefit of having trainers and assessors with industry knowledge and skills.
“This training will assist to increase the number of suitably qualified trainers in industry, and ensure workplace trainers can work together with RTO’s to increase the skills and knowledge of their workforce. Having qualified company trainers onsite has the added benefit of ensuring training meets site requirements, and provides greater capacity for training delivery across the Northern Territory at a National standard”
The project is due for completion early 2010.
