National Workforce Development Fund

The National Workforce Development Fund (NWDF) is a Federal Government program that supports employers to tailor trainingprograms to suit their current and future workforce skilling needs.

The Federal Government has announced an additional $12 million of notional funding for the Resources and Infrastructure Industry under the NWDF for 2012-2013. View SkillsDMC's announcement (PDF 200KB)

In 2011-2012, 42 large companies, 25 medium companies and 265 small companies took advantage of this funding across 67 approved projects. These projects provided skilling to nationally recognised qualifications and skills sets for over 5,000 new and existing workers ranging from Certificate II to Advanced Diploma.

The NWDF gets results

The role of Industry as an equal partner in this program is evidenced by the initial results of the National Workforce Development Fund. These results show that in the Resources and Infrastructure Industry, for every $1.00 contributed by the Federal Government in 2011/12, businesses contributed $1.30. In 2012/2013 this has increased to $1.80 effectively growing the national training system by some 180% in this area without recourse to public funding increases. The reason for the take up is that the Fund allows choice to be exercised by companies as to the content, timing and relevance of quality outcomes from training via direct purchasing
